The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington #2 (a.k.a. Butler-Wyatt Clubhouse #2) is the oldest of the Metropolitan Police Clubs and former home to Sugar Ray Leonard, John Thompson, Jr. and John Thompson III. It is also the home of the Trojans girls’ basketball team. On January, 20, 2010, the Trojans played against the SportsUnited Girls Basketball Team from Napal. "SportsUnited is an international sports programming initiative designed by the U.S. Department of State to help start a dialogue at the grassroots level with non-elite boys and girls ages 7-17. The programs aid youth in discovering how success in athletics can be translated into the development of life skills and achievement in the classroom. Foreign participants are given an opportunity to establish links with U.S. sports professionals and exposure to American life and culture." (you can edit that part). Both teams played a great game and it was wonderful to see these two teams connect through basketball.
William C. Smith + Co. is a big fan of the Trojans and continues to watch their development both on the court and off. WCS commends the efforts of Coach Shayla and Coach Melinda who dedicate their time to develop these young ladies.
Go Trojans!
(sorry, the team photo is a little fuzzy)
