William C. Smith + Co. participated in HOU’s (Housing Opportunities Unlimited) Job Fair at Walker Jones Library
On Friday, 4/23/10, William C. Smith + Co. participated in HOU’s (Housing Opportunities Unlimited) Job Fair at Walker Jones Library. About 30 employers participated and WCS representatives met prospective job seekers. The president of HOU, (David Connelly) thanked Delan Johnson and Pam Askew personally for WCS’s involvement in the fair, as well as our participation in the Career Club and having the first hire from the Career Club.
William C. Smith + Co. hosted HOU’s first “Career Club” Luncheon
On January 14, 2010, William C. Smith + Co. hosted HOU’s first “Career Club” Luncheon, where several WCS employees discussed with job seekers (former residents of Temple Courts) what it is like to work in the field of Real Estate.
After that meeting, WCS hired a participant from that 1/14/10 meeting and she has now passed her 30-day transition period. She works at Woodberry Village Apartments. As a side note, this employee coaches the Metropolitan Boy’s and Girl’s club (#2 Clubhouse) 10-11u girls basketball team who won District-wide Championship earlier this month. (A William C. Smith + Co employee was on hand for the semi-finalists game and reports they were awesome!)

Community Notes
January 20, 2010 – Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington #2 (a.k.a. Butler-Wyatt Clubhouse #2), Trojans girls’ basketball team vs. the SportsUnited Girls Basketball Team from Napal.
The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington #2 (a.k.a. Butler-Wyatt Clubhouse #2) is the oldest of the Metropolitan Police Clubs and former home to Sugar Ray Leonard, John Thompson, Jr. and John Thompson III. It is also the home of the Trojans girls’ basket
ball team. On January, 20, 2010, the Trojans played against the SportsUnited Girls Basketball Team from Napal. "SportsUnited is an international sports programming initiative designed by the U.S. Department of State to help start a dialogue at the grassroots level with non-elite boys and girls ages 7-17. The programs aid youth in discovering how success in athletics can be translated into the development of life skills and achievement in the classroom. Foreign participants are given an opportunity to establish links with U.S. sports professionals and exposure to American life and culture." (you can edit that part). Both teams played a great game and it was wonderful to see these two teams connect through basketball.
William C. Smith + Co. is a big fan of the Trojans and continues to watch thei
r development both on the court and off. WCS commends the efforts of Coach Shayla and Coach Melinda who dedicate their time to develop these young ladies.
Go Trojans!
(sorry, the team photo is a little fuzzy)
